Annwyl Cyfellion (Dear Welsh Friends and Friends of the Welsh):
This year I have two purposes in writing to you. Of course the Divine Service for St. David’s Day is something we all look forward to. The preacher this year will be the Rev. Sean Mullen, Rector of St. Mark’s Church here in Philadelphia. Fr. Mullen is from California and served in Australia before coming to Philadelphia. Bringing the music will be Reneé and Gregory Cantwell who sing with The Philadelphia Singers and the Opera Company of Philadelphia. There will be great singing and the Fellowship of the Least Coin (bring your pennies) and our traditional Té Bach will follow the service. The “March March” from the Welsh Plaque on the east side of City Hall to the Capel Dewi Sant will precede the Divine Service this year (meeting at City Hall at 2:00 p.m.), so you can park near the Church for all the afternoon’s festivities. You can find details for the March at the Welsh Society’s website (http://www.welsh-society-phila.org )closer to the date.
My second purpose is much more somber. Our good friend and Guild President Daniel Williams passed away on January 18, 2008, at his home in Wilkes-Barre. We are all deeply saddened. A Memorial Service for “Danny-Bach” is planned for Sunday, February 10, 2008, in the Capel Dewi Sant (St. David’s Chapel) at 3:30 p.m. You know we will sing Calon Lan (amongst many hymns) as we give thanks to the Almighty for Dan’s many gifts, his friendship and his leadership.
Deuwch canwn i’r Arglwydd
Come sing unto the Lord.
