Welsh Living Culture

Wales has a long and fascinating history, but it is far from over. Today Welsh culture is thriving both in Wales. United States, and around the world.

Welsh and "Saint David's" societies exist in every part of the globe, and one can be found in most major U.S. and Canadian cities. Dinners, language lessons, gatherings, and music are common themes.

Welsh Choirs frequently perform in the US, look for them at a church or concert hall near you. At a concert you can expect to hear not only traditional Welsh Hymns but popular classical songs and broadway tunes. If the choir is big enough you may also be treated to the mellifluous tones of the Welsh Triple Harp.

Rugby is becoming popular and the "Six Nations" games are available on TV and some bars and pubs hold "Rugby Breakfasts" where fans can cheer on their team. The "Six Nations" are: England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales.

Many well known Pop and Indie bands are coming out of Wales with large followings of young people:

  • Catatonia
  • Gorky's Zygotic Mynci
  • Manic Street Preacher
  • Stereophonics
  • Super Furry Animals

As a sign of the times event the British Broadcasting Company (B.B.C.) is in on the fun with a website devoted to Wales and Welsh culture: www.bbc.co.uk/wales and independent channel S4: http://www.s4c.co.uk/.
